The Labrador Retriever is a soundly built, well-balanced, athletic breed. The Labrador is a strong dog that can hunt waterfowl or upland game for hours at a time. The Labrador Retriever’s temperament is perhaps it’s hallmark, they are excellent family companions and their willingness to serve make them an excellent choice for a working dog of any sort. They should stand 21.5 to 24.5 inches at the shoulder, with males being larger then females, and weigh between 55 and 80 pounds. Labrador Retriever’s have a useful and distinctive waterproof coat of short, straight and very dense fiber, feeling almost hard to the touch. The acceptable colors are black, yellow and chocolate.
